The best time to post on Facebook in 2026 is on a weekday, with Wednesday as the strongest day: aim for noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, or for an early-morning slot, in your audience's local time. Two large studies back this up: Sprout Social's analysis of nearly 2 billion engagements, published in March 2026, and Buffer's analysis of 14 million Facebook posts, published in February 2026. They agree on the days, disagree on the hours, and share two slots that make the safest starting point.

The two slots both studies support: Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at 6 p.m. Each is one of Buffer's top three hours for its day, and each falls inside Sprout Social's noon-to-8 p.m. peak.

What is the best day to post on Facebook?

Wednesday. Buffer names it the top-performing day, and Sprout Social's data gives Tuesday and Wednesday the longest engagement peak of the week: eight hours, from noon to 8 p.m. More broadly, Sprout Social ranks Monday through Thursday as the best days.

On the worst days, the studies agree: weekends. Buffer calls Saturday the worst day to post, and Sprout Social found that Saturdays and Sundays yield the lowest engagement across almost all industries.

Best time to post on Facebook, day by day

Monday

Sprout Social sees a short peak from noon to 1 p.m., while Buffer's best Monday slots are all in the evening: 9 p.m., 10 p.m. and 7 p.m. A lunchtime post reaches people between meetings; an evening post reaches them after work. Pick one and test the other.

Tuesday

One of the two strongest days. Sprout Social's peak runs from noon to 8 p.m., and Buffer's top slots are 8 a.m., 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. 7 p.m. satisfies both.

Wednesday

The best day of the week. Sprout Social's peak runs from noon to 8 p.m., and Buffer's best slots are 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. 6 p.m. satisfies both; if your followers start work early, 8 a.m. is Buffer's first choice.

Thursday

Sprout Social sees a peak from noon to 2 p.m. and another at 8 p.m. Buffer's three best slots are all in the morning: 9 a.m., 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Friday

Sprout Social puts the best time around midday and notes that engagement drops as people wind down their workweek. Buffer's best Friday slots come even earlier: 8 a.m., 7 a.m. and 6 a.m. Either way, publish before the afternoon.

Saturday

The weakest day in Buffer's data, and a day with no peak in Sprout Social's. If you post anyway, Buffer's best slots are 10 p.m., 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Sunday

Sprout Social says the best time is hard to define because engagement is low across the board. Buffer's best Sunday slots are in the morning: 10 a.m., 9 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Why the two studies point to different hours

Sprout Social favors midday to evening, while Buffer favors mornings and evenings and even finds that noon to 5 p.m. gets the lowest engagement. Three things explain the gap:

• Different measures. Sprout Social looks at when engagement happens on the profiles its customers manage. Buffer looks at how posts performed depending on the hour they were published.
• Different samples. Sprout Social's figures come from more than 30,000 customers over three winter months, from late November 2025 to late February 2026. Buffer's come from 14 million posts published through its own tool.
• Averages hide audiences. A B2B software Page, a restaurant and a local sports club don't have followers with the same routines.

So treat the table as a list of hypotheses. Where the two datasets overlap, your odds are best.

How to find your own best time to post on Facebook

Meta gives every Page a shortcut: Active times. When you schedule a post in Meta Business Suite, Active times suggests slots based on when your followers were most active on Facebook and Instagram over the past 7 days.

To turn those suggestions into a schedule:

1. Shortlist three slots: one suggested by Active times, one from the table above, and one of the shared slots (Tuesday at 7 p.m. or Wednesday at 6 p.m.).
2. Test them for four weeks, publishing similar posts in each slot so that the hour is the main thing that changes.
3. Judge each post after the same delay, for example 48 hours, on reach and engagement. Keep your two best slots and check again every quarter.

Schedule your Facebook posts for those slots
