September 25, 2026 · 5 min read · By Wavnil

Key takeaways

  • Profile banner (LinkedIn calls it the background photo): 1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio, PNG or JPG, 8 MB maximum.
  • Company page cover: 1512 × 256 pixels, PNG or JPEG, 3 MB maximum. Many guides still quote 1128 × 191 or 4200 × 700, which don't match LinkedIn's current specs.
  • Profile photo: between 400 × 400 and 7680 × 4320 pixels. Company logo: 400 × 400 recommended, 268 × 268 minimum.
  • Keep text and logos out of the lower-left area of a profile banner, where your photo covers it.

The LinkedIn banner size is 1584 × 396 pixels for a personal profile and 1512 × 256 pixels for a company page. Both figures come from LinkedIn's Help Center, checked in September 2026. A profile banner can be a PNG or JPG of up to 8 MB; a company page cover, a PNG or JPEG of up to 3 MB.

Whether you're polishing your own profile before a job search or designing the cover of your company's Page, here are all the LinkedIn image sizes you need, plus how to make a banner that stays readable on a phone as well as on a laptop.

LinkedIn profile banner size: 1584 × 396 pixels

LinkedIn calls the image at the top of your profile the background photo, though most people search for it as a banner, a header or a cover photo. The recommended size is 1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio, as a PNG or JPG of up to 8 MB.

Three things to plan for before you design it:

  • Your profile photo covers part of it. The round photo overlaps the lower-left area of the banner, so keep text, logos and faces out of that corner.
  • It gets cropped and reframed. LinkedIn recommends choosing a photo "that won't require much cropping", and you can reposition it after uploading. Keep the essential content in a central band rather than near the edges.
  • It's shown small on phones. A 1584-pixel image squeezed onto a phone screen turns small text into noise. Use large type, strong contrast and a single short message.

What works well: one line on what you do and for whom, your brand colors, a clean photo of your workplace or city, or a visual for a book, podcast or event you're promoting. What doesn't: long sentences, contact details in small print, or a busy photo behind text.

LinkedIn company page banner size: 1512 × 256 pixels

For a LinkedIn Page, the cover image is 1512 × 256 pixels, which LinkedIn lists as both the minimum and the recommended size, in PNG or JPEG of up to 3 MB. It's much flatter than a profile banner: about 5.9:1 instead of 4:1.

Beware of outdated numbers. Many guides still recommend 1128 × 191 or 4200 × 700 pixels for company covers:

  • 1128 × 191 has the same shape as 1512 × 256 but fewer pixels, so it looks soft once stretched.
  • 4200 × 700 is a slightly different 6:1 shape, so the edges won't line up exactly.

Start from 1512 × 256 and you avoid both problems. For the logo, use a square 400 × 400 pixel image (268 × 268 is the minimum) with some breathing room around the mark, so it doesn't touch the edges.

If your Page has a Life tab, it uses three more formats: a 1128 × 376 main image, 502 × 282 custom modules and company photos of 900 × 600 pixels.

LinkedIn profile picture size

Your profile photo can be anywhere from 400 × 400 to 7680 × 4320 pixels, as a PNG or JPG of up to 8 MB. Since LinkedIn displays it as a circle, crop it square with your face in the center, leaving a little space above your head so nothing important falls outside the circle.

How to make a LinkedIn banner that works everywhere

  1. Start from the exact canvas: 1584 × 396 pixels for a profile, 1512 × 256 for a Page. Any design tool with custom sizes will do.
  2. Mark the no-go zone. On a profile banner, keep the lower left empty for your photo. On both formats, keep text away from the edges.
  3. Write one message in large type, such as what you do and who it's for. If it isn't readable when you zoom out to phone size, it's too small.
  4. Export in the right format. PNG keeps text and flat colors crisp; JPG suits photos and keeps files light. Stay under 8 MB for a profile and 3 MB for a Page.
  5. Upload, reframe and check. Adjust the position and zoom in LinkedIn's editor, then look at the result on both a phone and a computer.

Images for your LinkedIn posts

The banner is only the start: the images you post matter just as much. For Page posts, LinkedIn's specification is a 1.91:1 ratio, or 1200 × 627 pixels, and images must be more than 200 pixels wide. A post can hold up to 3,000 characters, as listed in our guide to social media character limits.

A few extra touches work well on LinkedIn. Bold words in a headline or post stand out, and our bold text generator creates them; use them sparingly, because some screen readers struggle with these characters. If you publish the same visuals elsewhere, check the Instagram post sizes and the YouTube thumbnail size too.

The short version

Use 1584 × 396 pixels for a profile banner and 1512 × 256 pixels for a company page cover, keep the lower-left corner of the profile banner clear, and check both on a phone before calling it done. Frequently asked questions

What size is a LinkedIn banner?

For a personal profile, LinkedIn recommends a background photo of 1584 × 396 pixels (a 4:1 ratio), in PNG or JPG, up to 8 MB. For a company page, the cover image is 1512 × 256 pixels, in PNG or JPEG, up to 3 MB.

What is the aspect ratio of a LinkedIn banner?

4:1 for a profile banner (1584 × 396 pixels), and about 5.9:1 for a company page cover (1512 × 256 pixels). The company cover is much flatter, so a design made for your profile needs reworking before it fits your Page.

Why does my LinkedIn banner look blurry or cropped?

Usually because the file was smaller than the recommended size and got stretched, or because its ratio doesn't match and part of it was cropped. Export at exactly 1584 × 396 pixels for a profile or 1512 × 256 for a Page, use PNG for designs with text, and adjust the framing after uploading.

Can I use a GIF as my LinkedIn banner?

No. LinkedIn accepts only PNG and JPG files for profile and background photos, and it states plainly that it doesn't support GIFs. Company page images must also be PNG or JPEG files.
